Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal has been elected as the president of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA). Sibal secured 1,066 votes, defeating his closest competitor, senior advocate Pradeep Rai, who received 689 votes.

The current president of the association is senior advocate Adish Aggarwala, with Pradeep Rai serving as the vice-president and Rohit Pandey as the honorary secretary. Sibal, a Harvard Law School graduate and former additional solicitor general of India, was designated as a senior advocate in 1983. His previous terms as SCBA president were in 1995-96, 1997-98, and 2001.

Role of Women in SCBA

In a significant move, the Supreme Court has directed that some posts in the executive committee of the Supreme Court Bar Association be reserved for women members. Justices Surya Kant and K V Vishwanathan emphasized the importance of the SCBA as a premier institution and an integral part of the highest judicial forum in the country. For the 2024-2025 SCBA elections, the post of treasurer will be reserved for women.
