Connect Roborock S8 Robot Vacuum To Fritz!Box: To make Roborock work we need strong Wi-Fi connectivity. So, first we will need to make sure we have a working router or access point at home. In case you have a big house then the S8 vacuum cleaner will have to cover a larger area, due to which it will travel to areas with weak WiFi signals too.
So, make sure you have a strong WiFi router at home which can cover your entire house. This will make sure Roborock won’t get disconnected from the internet. In case your house has WiFi dead spots then we recommend you to setup a WiFi extender or a mesh system or if you have another spare fritz box then you can setup second fritz box as fritz mesh repeater.
Anyways, first we need to make sure we have a fritz router setup in case you haven’t done that then follow the steps given below. Else you can scroll down to the Roborock S8 Robot Vacuum setup guide.
Setting Fritz!Box at home
- Firstly, you will need to understand what type of internet connection you have. Because different connection types have different internet cables. Like DSL, Cable, Optical Fiber, etc. Also we recommend you to plug your fritz router into an electrical outlet.
- Next, you will need to connect the internet cable from your ISP to your router.
- You will need a computer/laptop or a cell phone now. So, go to the WiFi list on any of these devices and there you will find fritz router SSID. It will come up as “Fritz-XXX-2.4GHz”.
- Tap on it to connect to it. Depending upon your fritz box model number it may ask for password. You can find the password written on the back side of the router. Type it in and hit connect.
- Once connected, open a browser and in the URL type http //192.168.178.1 and hit enter.
- This will take you to the fritz box login page. Follow the on screen instructions there to complete the setup.
- Kindly, make sure you note down the SSID and Password during the setup. As we will need it while connecting the Roborock S8 Robot Vacuum to the Fritz box.
Next, we recommend you to first fully charge your Roborock S8 Robot Vacuum. It might take around 3-6 hours for that. Moreover before setup turn it on and place it on any flat surface like floor. Also you need to place the charging dock against the wall on a flat surface in an area with strong WiFi connectivity.
Connecting Roborock S8 Robot Vacuum To WiFi
- After successfully installing the robot vacuum cleaner, we recommend downloading its application. Now Roborock S8 Robot Vacuum cleaner supports two apps. The first one is “Roborock” and second is “Xiaomi Home App”.
- You can download the app from play store or app store as per your respective operating system.
- After downloading the app you will need to create an account or sign in using a roborock account details if you already have an account.
- On the next window it will ask you to either “Scan to connect” or “Search for devices” option.
- Now, if you click on “Scan to connect” then you will need to scan the QR code available on the robot vacuum cleaner.
- Or else if you choose “Search for devices” then it will show you the list of vacuum cleaners. From there you simply will need to select the model number of your vacuum that you are trying to add.
- Next you will need to select the WIFI and type its password for verification. Now we recommend you to connect your phone beforehand to the Fritz box SSID. Also turn on the bluetooth on your phone for the setup purpose of this vacuum cleaner.
IMPORTANT: Also 5GHz WiFi is not supported so kindly choose the 2.4GHz only. In case you do then it won’t function at all.
- You will then need to remove the top cover of the unit and then press the “Mop only” and “Dock” buttons together for 3 seconds. When you hear a voice prompt saying “Resetting WiFi” then the device will start connection with your fritz router. So, check the “WiFi reset” box and tap on Next.
- This step can be tricky, here you will need to press the home button of your phone and then go to the WiFi list in WiFi settings. There you will find your Roborock network showing up as “roborock-xxxx-xxxxxx”. Simply tap on it to connect to it.
- Once you connect to the Roborock S8 Robot Vacuum, the connection with the fritz box will start and it hardly takes around 60 seconds or less. Once done tap on the option at the bottom of the app that says “Use now”.
- Once done the app will ask for permissions and will guide you through. Moreover if there will be any firmware update available it will show you the same.
